Reactivation of the EDI Working Group for the guide on lead-containing materials

The EDI Hazardous Substances Working Group will be reactivated in the first quarter of 2026 to develop a new guide on ‘How to decontaminate lead‘ in July.

After the release of the ‘Guide how to decontaminate asbestos’  and ‘Guide Fluorinated Gases in Insulation Foams‘, documents made in this Working Group, the meetings return, being scheduled for the first months of 2026 and with the aim of publishing a comprenshive new guide on how to decontaminate lead for professionals in the sector.

Why lead removal?

Lead is identified as a Substance of very high concern (SVHC) and is included in the REACH candidate list by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) since June 2018.  When lead-containing materials such as old paint, pipes, or dust are disturbed during demolition or renovation, hazardous particles can be released into the air and spread throughout the building and surrounding environment, increasing the risk of inhalation or ingestion.
