The working group on Hazardous Substances completes the 1st phase: identification of a dozen hazardous substances

23/02/2021

  • The working group on Hazardous Substances, created by EDI, continues to work and share information, knowledge and best practices.

There are many hazardous substances that surround us on a daily basis, especially in activities such as those carried out in the construction sector. Therefore, it is essential to know them, as well as the risks they entail and the procedure to follow when dealing with them.

This is one of the reasons why the European Decontamination Institute (EDI) created its working group on Hazardous Substances, which is taking the final steps in the elaboration of its Special Publication 2021 – Decontamination of hazardous substances.

This group has prepared an explanatory tour through more than a dozen hazardous substances with which companies who carry out decontamination activities have to deal with. Some of them are better known – such as asbestos, lead, silica dust or PCBs – and others are less frequent but equally dangerous: dioxins, PFOAs/PFOSs, arsenic, BTEX, cyanide, anthrax, HBCD, NORM, …

The next meeting of this group will be held on March 18.
