How is COVID-19 affecting industry events?

  • The current situation, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, has resulted in industry events being rescheduled and cancelled.

The term ‘social distancing’ has become one of the most commonly used expressions in the last year. We have experienced an almost radical change of life, and this has affected all areas, professional and personal. In both, events have been hit particularly hard.

Events related to our sector have suffered delays and cancellations, especially during 2020. We have an example of this at EDI: the association’s annual General Assembly had to be held via videoconference last year.

Among the cancellations, the EDA Annual Convention, which will also not be held this 2021, and IFAT, whose next edition will take place next year 2022, stand out. The Deutscher Abbruchverband – DA (German Demolition Association) have also cancelled the FACHTUNG ABBRUCH, which was going to be held next March and, finally, will take place on 2022.

For its part, ACI’s 8th Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management Summit has also been postponed to 2022.

To counteract these cancellations, more and more online events, conferences and webinars are taking place every week. The industry continues to move and work, but now from a distance.
