Mr. Kai Salmi, EDI Board member on behalf of the Finnish Demolition Association (FDA), has participated in the kick-off focus group of waste operators meeting, organized by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on 14 July.
The aims of the work are a better understanding of the waste operators needs through the development and analysis of specific use cases, assessing the best ways to disseminate and make the SCIP data available to the different actors in the waste chain, preparing the specifications for making the SCIP data readily available to be used in supporting waste operators’ practices and businesses in the coming years and agreeing on follow-up actions to take place in the autumn of 2020.
ECHA has been working on setting up the SCIP database for information on Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects (Products), as provided in Art. 9(2) of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD).
ECHA is currently working on making the SCIP data submitted by suppliers of articles available at the beginning of 2021.
The first version of the published data will be tailored to meet the needs of consumers, whereas the needs of waste operators, which are most likely different, will be more specifically addressed at later stages.
To determine those specific needs, we would like to discuss further with waste operators’ associations how the SCIP data could eventually be made available to best support the different waste operations.
